IBIZA HORSE VALLEY Sanctuary
rehabilitation - observation - advocacy
An ethical horse sanctuary, research ground and movement for change in the horse world
Ibiza Horse Valley is one of the few places in Europe where a fully integrated, free-roaming herd lives in natural conditions that out of free will chooses to engage with humans.
Founded in 2010, Ibiza Horse Valley is an ethical horse sanctuary, a place of continuous observation, and an advocacy organisation. Located in the Natural Park of Es Murta in northern Ibiza, but working toward a change that reaches far beyond the island.
We rescue horses from abuse, abandonment, and exploitation. Our rehabilitation programme returns them to their natural instincts: free from pressure, performance, and human expectation. When a horse arrives here, they stay for life.
Over 16 years, we have watched traumatised horses slowly return to themselves. Forming bonds, establishing hierarchy, and reclaiming behaviours that domestication had buried. Sixteen years of daily presence alongside this herd has produced a body of understanding about horses, freedom, and recovery that exists nowhere else in quite this form.
This work is not neutral. The horse world is a vast industry built on dominance, utility, and control. We are building the evidence that a different relationship is necessary, and we are not quiet about what that means.
This is not a local problem. Horses are exploited on every continent. The evidence we build here belongs to everyone working toward change.
Ibiza Horse Valley is more than a sanctuary: it Is a living example of what becomes possible when we TREAt animals, nature, and each other with respect, patience, and care.
SUSTAIN OUR WORK:
The Valley runs without government funding or commercial partnership. It exists because people based all over the world have chosen to sustain something they believe matters.
The horse world is a multi-billion-euro industry built on a model we are actively working against. We are a sanctuary witnessing, day by day, what horses become when they are freed from control. What we witness here and have witnessed for 16 years is a different way of being with horses. We share it with everyone who is ready to see it.
Our sponsors make the work possible. They keep the herd fed and the Valley protected. They fund the evidence, and by doing so, they fund a challenge to an entire industry. You do not need to visit Ibiza to be part of this. Sponsors join us from across the world.
Sponsoring Ibiza Horse Valley is not a donation to a charity. It is an investment in a different future for horses and a direct challenge to the status quo of an entire industry.
private visits
Everything we offer is shaped by one intention: to show what becomes possible when horses are truly free and to share that with anyone who wants to witness it firsthand.
Spending time in the Valley is one of the most direct ways to support the herd. Every visit contributes to the daily costs of care (feed, veterinary treatment, farrier work) and keeps the sanctuary running. It is both a meaningful experience and a genuine contribution.
Each visit is personal and by appointment only.
OUR HERD
Every horse at Ibiza Horse Valley was rescued from abuse, neglect, or abandonment and many from industries that treat horses as tools and disposable. They arrive from different countries and different histories. What they find here is the same: permanence, freedom, and a herd.
When a horse joins the Valley, it is for life. We do not rehome or separate them. Instead, they become part of a tight-knit herd: a community where bonds run deep and each individual finds their place at their own pace.
Our herd is a living, breathing argument. Every horse that recovers here is evidence of what becomes possible when the logic of the horse industry is refused.
16 years of observation
For 16 years, the Valley has been a place of continuous, daily observation. Not formal academic research but something that precedes it: the accumulation of knowledge that only comes from living alongside a free herd over time.
What we have witnessed - how traumatised horses reconstruct themselves, how hierarchy forms without enforcement, how horses that arrived broken become the ones who steady the newly arrived - forms a body of understanding we believe the horse world needs.
We are actively looking for researchers, institutions, and collaborators who want to engage with what has been built here over 16 years. If that is you, we want to hear from you.
Every gift carries life.

DIVE DEEPER THROUGH OUR HERD HARMONY
A private visit guided by Monique, who has observed this herd for 16 years. You will see what communication looks like without words, what leadership looks like without dominance, and what a horse becomes when given the space to simply be a horse.
-
JOIN OUR DAY IMMERSION
A full day inside the Valley with Monique and Mya - a combined 16 years of daily observation and a trained somatic perspective. No schedule, no programme, no agenda. You arrive, the herd is free, and what unfolds between you is entirely your own. Guests describe it as the most present they have felt in years.
-
EXPERIENCE SOMATIC THERAPY WITH HORSES
Individual sessions with Mya, a certified Somatic Therapist who grew up alongside this herd. Sessions take place inside the Valley with horses who engage entirely of their own choosing. There is no structure imposed on the horses, and that freedom is precisely what makes a session so unexpected and so real.
